Subject:Easter weekend
Time:03:21 pm

Had Skye for some of easter and had a great time. On sunday Sarah came round and cooked some dinner and I managed to get Skye sat up at the table as we were having an easter meal together. Bites of food were interpersed with clinking of glasses and “Cheers” and “Happy easter”. Literally every bite :)

When I put her to bed she told me that I’d just be downstairs and I had to turn the TV back on to watch it. Doesn’t miss a beat that one.

On Sunday I got a bit of a lie in which was nice, she got up around 11AM. I had to wake her too and she stretched and yawned saying

“I slept all day as was really tired”. Awwww.

Watched WALL-E (AGAIN) and some of finding Nemo. I left her in the study watching Nemo while I did some chores in the kitchen, but I’d forgotten the start of Nemo is pretty scary so had to go back and give her huggles.

In the afternoon we went to the funfair at Alexandra Palace (which amusingly she called Alice’s house) and went on the trampolines & on a pedalo with baby Ben & baby Freya. They seemed to have a good time :) Wasn’t impressed by leaving though.

Had thai takeaway and got her to try some hot & sour soup which she liked and some chicken too.

Subject:Thinking of you...
Time:11:48 pm
I was playing around with my iPod and got this cool new remote app on it. I was seeing what it could do and was playing with FrontRow on the mac and looking at pictures from the past and videos of you. Sometimes I miss you so much that I forget how happy it makes me to see you, to hear you laugh. I was sat on the sofa watching all the moments from the past with a smile on my face and a tear in my eye, thinking how lucky I am to have you in my life. You mean more to me than you'll probably realize, at least probably not until the cycle starts again and you go through this yourself.

Subject:Child development & language
Time:01:33 pm
So I've recently been under pressure from quite a few people to teach Skye how to speak French. I don't argue the value in learning a second language, but I also don't think it's as useful as you think. Are you. the reader bilingual? If the answer is yes, how useful do you actually find it? I personally don't find that speaking French gives me any advantage in life apart from the fact that it gives me a better insight into how language works, and how the language we use shapes our thoughts and ways of thinking. If you only know one language I imaging that these concepts don't even occur to you. Ultimately though, it's a good think to learn even if the value is small.
I'm reluctant to do it though. I don't want to speak French to Skye for several reasons:
- I don't want to go back to the stage of development where communicating with Skye is difficult
- As I live on my own, it's very hard to maintain a one sided conversation, especially in an unfamiliar language
- I look forwards all week to interacting with Skye and I don't want to spoil my enjoyment
- I have so much I want to teach her and so little time, like reading, or sign language for instance. I see my primary role as a Dad to be one of a teacher.
- I don't feel I have the energy to do this on my own and maintain it.

Subject:Shopping with Skye
Time:10:41 pm

Had a lovely afternoon with Skye, she was an absolute angel. She was so excited to see me that it made all the stress and tiredness from the day evaporate. She didn't want to be apart from me the whole afternoon, had to come with me everywhere I went and share every precious moment.
We went shopping together as I needed to get some food (including yogurt and jelly of course), so we walked down to iceland hand in hand. When we got there, I let her push the basket around and asked her what she wanted. Sometimes I handed her the item to put in the basket, other times she helped herself, like with the 3 packets of yogurts! After a while the trolley got too heavy to push, so she ran around the shop with both hands out shouting "STAR!!" which is something she's learnt from a dance/play group think. Cute.
Got to the checkout and she passed me all the stuff for me to pay for it and then helped pack it away. She's a helpful little girl, loves to help with everything if you'll let her.
I've also managed to not watch WALL-E for the first time in god knows how long. I hope she's bored of it now. We watched Alladin which she seemed to like, especially the songs. She didn't like fraggle rock though, thought it was boring.
Didn't want to take her back, she didn't want to leave either, said she wanted to stay at Daddy's house. Looking forwards to friday for more Skyetime.

Subject:Hampstead heath
Time:11:46 pm
Went to hampstead heath on Sunday to meet up with Skye, Sarah and Steve. Was an absolute nightmare getting there, every way I tried to go had transport issues, and I was hot and irritable by the time I got there. My frustration quickly evaporated as I walked up the hill and Skye saw me
"There's my Daddy!" she squealed as she ran towards me. I got a running hug and a quick kiss before she asked me for ice cream. Apparently she'd had a tamtrum, dropped it and the dog ate it.
She was very keen on going in the lake, so I explained that we didn't have armbands with us
"No armbands, can't swim" she affirmed.
She spied a stick in the water and went to investigate
"Big dick" she said, pointing.
"No that would be a STICK..."

We walked back to Steve's car and she let me put her on my shoulders, which she doesn't do very often. She fed me bits of her ice cream at regular intervals and somehow avoided dripping too much of it on my head. Had lots of (tiring) fun bouncing her up and down, but she liked the running best. I imagine it is quite fun to be on someone's shoulder who's running. I love the sound of her laugh.

Went back to Sarah's and had some food and played some more with Skye. She did her first unaided roly-poly! Went on to do do daddy-climbing and backflips off my shoulders. I even got her to stand balanced on my shoulders for a while until she tried to sit on my head. I'll make an acrobat out of her yet :)

A memory...
Putting some music on and dancing with Skye
"Make it louder" she says, so I put it louder
"Like this one" she says smiling. I think it was "spitfire" by the Prodigy
She looks up at me with a sly smile
"Like a baby" she says softly. So I cradle her in my arms and look at her big blue eyes staring up at me with her impish grin. She claps her hands with glee
"Love you Daddy". My heart turns to butter
